Covid-19 has and is continue to take a lot from the world. While we in India, till date, witness over 1600 deaths in a day, 18^th June 2021 came with yet another shock. Legendary Indian athlete, Milkha Singh aka Flying Sikh went for his heavenly aboard after fighting a long battle with Covid-19. He succumbed to the deadly virus five days after his wife Nirmal Kaur, a former India volleyball captain, had lost her battle to post Covid complications. The 91-year-old was tested positive for COVID-19 on May 19 when he was home isolated at his Chandigarh residence. However, on May 24^th, the athlete was rushed to Mohali’s Fortis Hospital and later to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh due to Covid Pneumonia.

The 1958 Commonwealth Games champion, four-time Asian Games champion who gave a real face to the country in Rome Olympics 1960 was born in Gobindpura (in present day Pakistan) was the first Indian athlete to have won a gold in British Empire and Commonwealth Games (known as The Commonwealth Games now) in Cardiff in 1958. Despite all the fame that Mr. Singh enjoyed these years, he still remained the same humble person in heart who charged just INR 1 for his biopic & the blockbuster movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. 

As the news of the legend’s demise broke, the internet got flooded with tributes paid to him by everyone, including PM Narendra Modi.

While the entire country mourns the loss of a hero, a heartfelt note by Jeev Milkha Singh, son of the legend filled everyone’s eye’s with tears. The note is getting viral on twitter.
